Travel Humor – Deceitful Descriptions?

I don’t know about you, but the weekend was too much fun and I need to sleep in. Sadly,  that is not an option for me today and my Mexico trip is STILL a month away, so let’s kick off the week with a (huge cup of coffee) chuckle instead.

Here are some descriptions of travel terms followed by the true meaning, all tongue-in-cheeks, of course. I can’t recall where I first saw this list, so if you know who should receive credit, please let me know. Cheers!

……………….TERM …………………………………………………….TRANSLATION…………………….

  1. Old world charm …………………………… No bath and usually includes lots of stairs
  2. Tropical …………………………………………. Rainy (let me add, hot and steamy!)
  3. Majestic setting …………………………….. A long way from town
  4. Options galore ……………………………… Nothing is included in the itinerary
  5. Secluded hideaway ……………………… Impossible to find or get to
  6. Pre-registered rooms ………………….. Already occupied
  7. Explore on your own ………………….. Pay for it yourself
  8. Knowledgeable trip hosts……………. They’ve flown in an airplane before
  9. No extra fees ……………………………….. No extras
  10. Nominal fee ………………………………… Outrageous charge
  11. Standard ……………………………………… Sub-standard
  12. Deluxe …………………………………………. Standard
  13. Superior ……………………………………….One free shower cap
  14. All the amenities ………………………….Two free shower caps
  15. Plush …………………………………………….Top and bottom sheets
  16. Gentle breezes ……………………………..Occasional Gale-force winds
  17. Light and airy ………………………………No air conditioning
  18. Picturesque ………………………………….Theme park nearby
  19. Open bar ………………………………………Free ice cubes

Thankfully, I haven’t had too many of these on my travels, but 2, 3, and 17 are a bit too familiar to me. ☮️❤️🌏

What do you think? Are there any you would add to this list? Let me know in the comments!
